Getting ready!

If none of you have heard by now (and I expect that you have heard me raving about this...), I will be spending the next academic year working as an English language assistant at a school in Quebec! This blog is my attempt to document my year, to share photos and memories with friends and family across the pond, and to foray into blogging! I promise not to make this a nauseating boastful ode to Canada. I will share with you the bad as well as the good!

Flights booked!

I booked my plane this morning and will be leaving on the 4th of September!

I CAN tell you that to get to this stage, I have had to...

-Pass an interview in Edinburgh (I offended the Quebecan panelist by saying that I didn't think people in Quebec would know what music festivals are...but they took me anyway.)

-Get a Police Certificate.

-Get a health check, Lung scan, Blood tests etc. And pay £300 for the privilege...

-Fill out a LOT of paperwork for a Visa.

-Attend a training day in London.

-Book flights. 

The place where I shall be teaching is called 'Sainte-Anne-des-Monts', and lies on the north coast of the Gaspé Peninsula. It is a coastal town, right next to the national park of Gaspésie, (next to the ski slopes. I am very keen to learn.) It is very remote. 7 hours away from Quebec City, 9 hours from Montreal... There are no trains and I can't drive, so I think that the car sharing website 'Allo Stop' will be my new Facebook. (Currently creating a profile...)

My school: École Gabriel le Courtois. Mum thinks that it looks like a prison, but I am reserving judgement.

So keep an eye on this blog, and I will update you every month or so, as to how I am getting on :)

Si vous ne le savez pas (et ce serait surprenant, parce que ça fait longtemps que je délire sur ce sujet...) , je travaillerai l'année prochaine comme assistante de langue anglaise dans un collège/lycée au Québec! Ce blog-ci sera ma tentative à partager mes photos et mes souvenirs avec vous, chère famille, chers amis! C'est la première fois que j'écris un blog, donc on verra si ceci aboutira. Je promets que ceci ne sera pas un blog vantard des merveilles de Québec! Je décrirai le bon, la brute, et le truand!

Je viens de réserver mon vol. Je vais partir le 4 Septembre.

Je vais partager tout ce que j'avais à faire pour assurer ma place au Québec...
-Réussir un entretien à Edimbourg (j'ai agacé l'invité Québécois parce que je pensais que les Québecois ne sauraient pas ce qu'est un festival de musique...)
-Obtenir un extrait de casier judiciaire.
-Obtenir un bilan de santé positif (une échographie pulmonaire, des analyses de sang etc.) J'ai dû payer £300 sterling pour ce privilège...
-Remplir beaucoup de formulaires pour avoir mon visa.
-Suivre une journée d'entraînement à Londres.
-Réserver mon vol.

L'endroit où j'enseignerai s'appelle 'Sainte-Anne-des-Monts', et se trouve sur la côte Nord de la péninsule de Gaspésie. C'est une petite ville côtière, près du Parc National de la Gaspésie. (C'est près d'une station de ski, - j'ai hâte d'apprendre à faire du ski). C'est aussi une ville isolée- Québec (ville), c'est à 7 heures de route. Montréal, c'est à 9 heures de route! Je crois qu'il n'y a pas de train, et je ne peux pas conduire, donc je pense que le site-web 'Âllo Stop' (qui facilite le covoiturage) sera un nouveau Facebook pour moi. Je m'en vais, il faut que je crée un profil...

Gardez un oeil sur cet blog- je vais écrire chaque mois pour vous tenir informé des événements de mon séjour au Québec :)
